PRAY, PAUSE AND LISTEN-Does GOD talk to Men?

How come when we talk to GOD they said that we are praying but when we say that GOD talks to us, we're schizophrenic?--The Friars Club

Do you pray, pause and listen? God must be talking to you.

When I was about to graduate in high school, I was included among the candidates for valedictorian. The teacher-in-charge of the school's organ required us to submit a black and white photo for publication in case we're selected. I was positive that I will be selected-- I got the highest average.

But I still went to Baclaran to pray. I liked to get a scholarship so I could pursue college. It's the only way I can get to College without spending so much for the tuition fees and miscellaneous. Without this, College was impossible. We're fatherless and my older siblings were also working students.

After my prayer request, I paused and sat down. This was the time, I heard the voice.
I will not become the valedictorian. But I can finish college no matter what happens.

I simply dismissed the "voice" that as my own self talking to me.

The following day, I got the bad news. I did not qualify to become the valedictorian. Not even honorable mention. I lacked the residence required for honor students.

For months, I was angry to God. How can I go to College. Even with my passing UPCAT, I still need money for allowance and for books. Besides, that time, we were residing in Sampaloc area where getting to UP would make me take three jeepney rides.

Before graduation, my favorite teacher informed me that I passed the entrance exam at PLM,the city university which provides free college education for bright but financially challenged Manila High School graduates. I was ecstatic. This must be the answer to my prayer.

Despite the many trials that I faced pursuing college, as promised I got the diploma Then I pursued postgraduate courses. Never, I ignore the little voices that I hear after praying. It must be God responding to my prayer. Am I schizophrenic? I don't care.

Does your heart beat for others?

I could not help but recall the story I read about Mother Teresa.

It is about a family with eight children who have not eaten for days. The faces of the little children were disfigured due to lack of nourishment. There were no sorrows in their faces. Only pain of hunger.
When they were given food, the mother divided the rice into two halves. The first half was apportioned to the children. Carrying the other half, the mother disappeared momentarily. When she came back, she said that she shared the food with the neighbors who were also hungry.

This was about a mother, an adult who despite being poor can be generous.

What I witnessed was a little girl. She lives in the depressed area where contestants from that noontime show were recruited. She was lucky to have been chosen as one of the winners. When she was made to choose for the prize she wanted, she pointed the package of toys. I thought she was stupid to select the package among the more expensive and useful home appliances.

Asked why she chose the toys , she said that they were not for her but for her siblings who never had new toys in their lives.

There were times in the past that I whined. " Why Lord. Why do you allow these things to happen? What more prayers do you need?"

A non-Christian sent this to me when I was in deep depression. Did the Lord use him as an instrument when I already refused to pray?

Crisis of Faith and the Christmas Miracle

father fernando suarez
I never wear a new dress for Christmas although I bought several for the occasion when I was still socially active attending a lot of parties. I wore them before Christmas eve. But for the actual Christmas day, you can see me wearing an old dress.

It was several Christmases ago when I was still a grader and my father was still alive when I adopted this self-imposed Christmas tradition of wearing old dress and giving food to our less fortunate relatives/neighbors.

I may have blogged about this but i can’t find it at the moment. I will be going to the hospital in a few hours from now for my CATscan and I thought that I might as well write the story again.

My father lost his job in December that year. He was assigned in Palawan and he could not bear the loneliness and homesickness being away from the family. Usually when he found a new job, he would relocate us after a few months. But not in the far-flung place. So he came home and never went back.

December was the worst month for job hunting. For the next few weeks, we subsisted on the savings of my mom. I still can remember that big red mail-box shaped-alkansiya full of coins that she kept near the family altar. (It is only now I realized why she did not want to keep any piggy bank in our home after that year. She believed that every time she had savings, some misfortunes happened to the family).

Some few hours before the Christmas eve, she instructed us to get dressed. Our Sunday dress. We got no new clothes for Christmas, no toys and not even a noche buena.

When I was older, she confessed that she suffered from the crisis of faith when we had only a few pesos left before Christmas. As an atonement and also to save some money for hot pan de sal, she convinced us to walk up to Quiapo.

We did enjoy walking, stopping every now and then to admire the Christmas decors and lights along the way.

All the time, what was running in my mind was the explanation I was preparing for my classmates when I go back to school after the holidays without a new dress to show. That’s Christmas for kids, isn’t it? New dress, new shoes and toys.

After the mass ,we went near the altar where there was this belen and the Infant Jesus “was wrapped in the swaddling clothes”. It impressed shame on my young mind that while the birthday celebrant was not wearing ostentatious clothes worthy for a King, there I was thinking of the perception of my snooty classmates about me having no new dress.

We came home. No one was in the house. My father was looking for us waiting at the bus stop. The table was laden with food courtesy of our neighbors. Then the miracle which I could only comprehend by listening to the conversation of the adults while enjoying the sumptous noche buena.

MY eldest brother who was growing up to be an atheist even he was still in high school, went to church not to attend mass. He joined the car-watch-boys in the church premises. After the mass, my brother’s “client” handed him the money and sped away. In the space when the car was, he saw an envelope with a Christmas card. The name written on top was his nickname. No last name. He opened the envelope, hoping that he could get the address of the car owner who had just left. Nothing. Just the name of the giver. That’s the name of my sister.
And inside the card was money. Big money. Much as he wanted to give it back, he had no clue to whom.

So we had Merry Christmas that year. Another good news was my father got a job. Yes, even though it was December. My mom kept the card. She bought yards of fabric and sewed me two beautiful dresses for the New Year. One was colored white with lavender flowers and the other one was with orange prints. Yep, I could remember even the styles because for me those were the beautiful dresses I had for a Christmas.

This is a repost from my NWC's December 18 entry.

Father Fernando's sense of humor

Father Fernando is a very simple man but like other ordinary person he has also a sense of humor. Although the story is true, the way he narrated the story in the gathering of 2000 people in Atlanta in June 2007, you can not help but laugh.

Using humor, the Filipino priest shared the story of his first healing of a crippled beggar woman whom he took pity on and prayed with after attending Mass when he was a college student. He closed his eyes, made the Sign of the Cross and prayed “an Our Father, Hail Mary and a Glory Be.”

“When I opened my eyes she was standing, walking. My first reaction was that I got scared. I ran home and told my mom that if a woman comes here and says she’s been healed, she’s crazy,” recalled Father Suarez with a laugh.

You Pray, HE listens-Life of miracles or coincidences?

father fernando suarez
Life is mysterious. Many coincidences, little miracles that we ignore.

A missed bus that had a road accident, a friend’s unexpected call when you are in a crisis and it’s only who can give the little push up…

It may be coincidence, or it may be an innocent prayer heard…

Have you experienced being hungry and you have only a few pesos bills in your pocket? What did you do?

Guess what this fine young man, a BA Journalism student of UP did when he was hungry and wet and all he had was a few pesos that were not enough to buy a meal.

It was nearing 8 p.m. when I went out the house with a grumbling stomach and a 20-peso bill. Of course, I couldn’t buy food with such meager amount. But it’s the only bill I had left; I planned of withdrawing at the nearest ATM.

Too bad all five were either offline, out of order, or did not transact business with my bank. Grr. So I went to the Shopping Center, with the PNB ATMs as last resort. And guess what, it was no good either. Wouldn’t accept my card. Penniless, stomach grumbling loudly, and (worse) the rain pouring suddenly, I went back to Philcoa. What I had left in my pocket now was six pesos, thus I decided to go home and just rob my Piknik bank to have something to eat (not necessarily from fast food restos). I was already starving!

Then, just as I climbed out of the jeep, I went inside Jollibee in an impulse.

I prayed Patrick, one of my roommates, would be there, eating, so I could borrow money from him. Of course, it was quite impossible, but I went inside anyway for no apparent reason, perhaps just to take a rest for a while.

Sure, there was no Patrick inside. Just a Paul. My other roommate. Luck!

So there I was, fifteen minutes later, eating spaghetti.

Pray. It works! He listens!

There must be a reason for the cross that you are carrying

Before I was healed, I always asked God why He is sending me a lot of crosses to bear. My sister sent me a card with the picture of Divine Mercy

Divine Mercy

and a prayer to the Sacred Heart when she learned about the diagnosis. One particular line in the prayer that moved me was this:

When I feel impatient and my cross irritates me: Sacred Heart of Jesus , please help me.

Believe me, I feel comfort from pain.

The pictures below were sent to me by a non-Christian friend. I hope you get the message from these images.

The Deer in the Highway

father suarez

There are times when I have a question to God for which I want an instant reply.
So I asked Him for a sign.

Last week, something's bothering me. I prayed and asked God what's going to happen. I
raised the question answerable by yes or no.

That weekend, my brother decided to bring me to Shenandoah Park. He wanted me to see the changing colors of fall. While on our way, to the park, I asked for the sign that is impossible to happen. I do not ask for things that I can easily see. I asked to see a deer. I haven’t seen one ever since I came to the US. Not only a deer, but a deer on a highway which is not running so I can see it very well. I imagined that the deer will be in the middle of the road. Silly me. Yes, typical me.

I did not see one, in the park. All I saw was a caterpillar being photographed by a Chinese couple. You see, you can write in a log-book of your sightings. I could have written that I saw an eagle but I forgot because I was more absorbed looking at the
grasshopper which brought me to reminisce my childhood when I used to catch this little insect in a grassy area we used as playground.

I thought my question will never be answered. We drove home. My brother slowed down. In the middle of the highway was a deer. Not one but two. They were not moving not because they stopped for me to see them. They're dead.

I asked my brother, how they were still sideswiped by fast moving vehicles when they are fast runners. My dad earned that monicker, usa, because he run fast especially when my mom was after him with a palo-palo.

Brod told me that they’re blinded by the light, so they stopped in the middle and cars may not be able to break on time to avoid them.

The sight of the two animals answered my question I asked to God.

Then when I was in bed, I saw something spectacular happened in my little altar. I blinked several times. I pinched myself if I was dreaming. I thought, I saw it moved, not only moved but circled. Whatever it is, I won’t tell you. You must brand me crazy.

When people are in the “limbo” a small candle of hope is like a 1,000 -watt bulb. But I know that we never really are left alone by GOD even in our saddest moments.

What about you? Do you also experience little miracles?

The Gift

Somewhere in Milaor, Camarines Sur, there lived a fourth grader boy who would follow this route to school everyday: He has to cross the rugged plains and cross the dangerous highway where vehicles are recklessly driving to and from.

Once past this highway, the boy would take a short cut, passing by the Church every morning just to say Hi to God, and faithfully say his, "Magandang umaga po" in Bicol dialect. He was faithfully being watched by a Priest who was happy to find innocence so uplifting in the morning,

"Kamusta, Andoy? Papasok ka na?"

"Opo padre ... "he would flash his innocent grin, the priest would be touched. He was so concerned that one day he talked to Andoy.

"From school...", he advised "Do not cross the highway, you can pass through the Church and I can accompany you to the other side of the road...that way I can see that you are home safe...."

"Thank you father ... "
"Why don't you go home ... why do you stay in this church right after school?"

"I just want to say 'Hi' to my friend, God," and the priest would leave the boy to spend time beside the altar, talking to himself, but the priest was hiding behind the altar to listen to what this boy has to say to his heavenly FATHER.

"You know my math exam was pretty bad today, but I did not cheat although my seatmate is bullying me for notes... I ate one cracker and drank my water, Itay had a bad season and all I can eat is this cracker.

Thank you for this! I saw a poor kitten who was hungry and I know how he feels so I gave my last cracker to him ... funny but I am not that hungry.
Look, this is my last pair of slippers ...I may have to walk barefoot next week, you see this is about to be broken... but it is okay....at least I am still going to school.... Some say we will have a hard season this month, some of my classmates have already stopped going to school .... please help them get to school again, please God?

...Oh, you know, Inay hit me again, it is painful, but I know this pain will pass away, at least I still have a mother.... God, you want to see my bruises? I know you can heal them.... Here... here and .... oh ...blood ...I guess you knew about this one huh? Please don't be mad at Inay, she is just tired and she worries for the food in our table and my schooling that is why she hits us....Oh, I think I am in love ... there's this pretty girl in my class, her name is Anita ... do you think she will like me? Anyway, at least I know you will always like me, I don't have to be anybody just to please you, you are my very best friend! Hey your birthday is two days from now!!! Aren't you excited? I am! Wait till you see, I have a gift for you . but it is a surprise! I hope you will like it! Oooops, I have to go ..." then he stood up and calls out, "Padre, padre, I am finished talking to my friend ....you can accompany me to the other side of the road now"

This routine happens everyday. Andoy never fails. Father Agaton shares this every Sunday to the people in his church because he has not seen a very pure faith and trust in God, a very positive look at negative situations.

One Christmas day, Father Agaton was sick so he could not make it in the Church, he was sent to the hospital. The Church was left to 4 manangs who would chant the rosary in 1000 miles per hour, would not smile and would always find fault in what you do, they were also very well versed in cursing if you irritate them! They were kneeling, saying their kilometric rosary when Andoy, coming from his Christmas party, playfully dashed in.

"Hello God! I ."

"P----!! (a curse) bata ka!! Alam mo nang may nagdadasal!! Alis!!"

Poor Andoy was so terrified, "Where's Father Agaton? He is supposed to help me cross the street ... and to be able to cross the street I will have to pass by the back door of this church .not only that, I have to greet Jesus. It is His birthday, I have a gift right here....

" Just as he was about to get the gift out of his shirt, the manang pulled his shirt and threw him out of the church. "Susmaryosep!!! (does the sign of the cross fervently) Alis kang bata ka, kung hindi matatamaan ka!!!

So the boy had no choice but to cross the dangerous side of the road in front of the church. He crossed. A fast moving bus came in.

There was a blind curve. The boy was protecting his gift inside his shirt, so he was not looking. There was so little time. Andoy died on the spot. A lot of people crowded the poor boy, the body of a lifeless young boy ...

Suddenly, out of nowhere a tall man in a pure white shirt and pants, a face so mild and gentle, but with eyes full of tears... He came and carried the boy in His arms. He was crying. Curious bystanders nudged the man in white, and asked,

"Excuse me sir, are you related to this child?

Do you know this child?"

The man in white, His face mourning and in agony, looked up and answered,

"He was my best friend . " was all he said. He took the badly wrapped gift in the bloody chest of the lifeless boy, and placed it near
His heart.

He stood up and carried the boy away and they both disappeared in sight.

The crowd was curious .

On Christmas Eve, Father Agaton learned of the shocking news. He visited the house, and wanted to verify about the man in white. He consulted the parents of Andoy.

"How did you know that your son died?"

"A man in white brought him here." sobbed the mother. "What did he say?"
The father answered, "He did not say anything. He was mourning. We do not
know him and yet he was very lonely about our son's death, as if he knew
our son very well. But there was something peaceful and unexplainable about him.
He gave me my son, and then he smiled peacefully. He brushed my son's hair
away from his face and kissed him on his forehead, then he whispered
something..."

"What did he say?"

"He said to my boy..." the father began, "Thank you for the gift ... I will see you soon ... you will be with me..." and the father of the boy continued, "and you know for a while, it felt so wonderful ... I cried, but I do not know why....all I know is I cried tears of joy .... I could not explain it, Father, but when that man left, something peaceful came over me, I felt a deep sense of love inside ... I could not explain the joy in my heart, I knew my boy is in heaven now but...tell me, Father, who is this man that my son talks to everyday in your church, you should know because you are always there ... except at the time of his death ......"Father Agaton suddenly felt the tears welling in his eyes, with trembling knees, he murmurred, " ... He was talking to no one .....
but .. GOD...."

RP's Global Healing Center

This is an article in the Philippine Daily Inquirer about the Montemaria Healing Center.

Stage set for RP as global healing center

By Bernardo V. Lopez
Philippine Daily Inquirer

MANILA, Philippines — Last Christmas eve, the security guard at Montemaria in Batangas saw from afar a bright glow on the makeshift altar-stage.He thought the electricity had been installed. But then, he thought, why now in the middle of the night, on the eve of Christmas?

When he went out to check, the light was gone.

The guard sent a text message reporting the incident to Paz Monteclaro of the Mary Mother of the Poor Foundation (MMPF), which supports Fr. Fernando Suarez, the now famous healer of the blind, deaf, mute and lame.

Both Suarez and the MMPF wondered: Was this mysterious light, which came at the time of the birth of Jesus, perhaps an omen of His coming to this remote hillside?

Suarez and the foundation are feverishly preparing for a big event at Montemaria on Jan. 11-13, a vigil that Suarez has named “Healing the Nation by Prayer and Adoration”—deemed timely in this era of turmoil, economic decline and disasters.

They expect a huge crowd, perhaps the beginnings of the vision of a global healing center.

The logistics are extremely simple—a tent that can accommodate about 80 people when thousands are expected to come. Pilgrims will have to bring their own food and beddings, and sleep under the stars.

Suarez is praying for good weather. He says the tent is “biblical,” reminiscent of that used in the desert when the Jews wandered to the Holy Land from Egypt.

Before the Christmas Eve glow, there had been many strange omens at Montemaria—earth, wind, water, and now fire, the primordial elements of our planet.

First, the wind omen: During the groundbreaking and blessing of the altar-stage in January 2007, just as Suarez was beginning his homily, the calm was broken by a violent wind.

When others, including a bishop, spoke, everything became calm once more.

Second, the water omen: Just as Suarez began sprinkling holy water on the altar-stage, an eerie drizzle of fine raindrops descended on the 500-odd people attending the ceremony. It was as if the heavens were joining him in blessing the place.

Some of those present reported an odd, circular cloud hovering above them. There were many pictures taken. (I am still trying to get a copy.) Suarez himself said he saw a cloud in the form of a hand.

Third, and most spectacular, the earth omen: The stones taken from Montemaria by Fr. Nap Baltazar of the parish of St. Francis of Assisi were reported to have healed cancer and diabetes patients. (See Inquirer, Dec. 2, 2007, or search for “montemaria healing stones” at www.youtube.com.)

Last Oct. 22, after news of the healing stones had spread like wildfire, Baltazar celebrated a healing Mass at Montemaria. Some 400 devotees were in attendance, and the same fine drizzle descended on them.

Baltazar, who had yet to meet Suarez then, said: “Montemaria is a sacred place of healing, just like Lourdes and Fatima.”

When the “rock priest” and the healing priest finally met on Dec. 19, they embraced like old friends.

Perhaps by divine inspiration, Suarez had envisioned Montemaria as a global healing center.

He did not even know that this might be a fulfillment of a Marian message at Medjugorje that the Philippines would become a global spiritual center one day.

Indeed, Montemaria may be a continuation of Medjugorje, if the many omens lead to a realization.

Montemaria’s global character is evident. Suarez reports that many people in Europe and America are asking about it.

Foreigners know more about Montemaria than Filipinos do because of the Internet (See www.fatherfernando.com and www.marymotherofthepoor.org). They are all anxious to go to Montemaria even when there is nothing there now except a makeshift altar-stage.

Big plans, designed by architect Nestor Mangio, are afoot at Montemaria.

Mangio met Suarez by “divine accident” in Ottawa, Canada, which is the base of the latter’s congregation, Companions of the Cross.

The architect instantly offered his services for free.

Mangio’s blueprint includes the first two edifices that will rise late this year—a residence for the ministry called the House of St. Joseph (to be donated by MMPF stalwarts Greg and Paz Monteclaro), and a prayer chapel called the House of Mary (a replica “down to the last brick” of an ancient shrine in Ephesus, Turkey).

The megashrine of Our Lady of the Poor (according to Suarez, to include the poor in spirit and not just the financially poor) will follow. The statue will stand 102 meters tall and will include a 40-meter pedestal and a complex of large rooms of several floors.

There will also be an oratory the size of a cathedral, and a dozen or so chapels scattered all over the 18-hectare complex.

The history of Marian apparitions through the centuries, from Fatima to Lourdes to Medjugorje, shows that they often occur before a cataclysm.

The apparitions at Fatima occurred before the bloody Spanish Civil War, at Lourdes before World War I, and at Medjugorje before the bloodbath of the Serbian wars.

It is as if the Lord is frantically reaching out to a sinful world through His mother, the last and only prophet of the New Testament.

The flood of healing is an omen, a warning for humanity to return to His fold.

This is the recurring theme throughout the Old and New Testaments about the relationship of humanity with God — sin and punishment, the return to His fold, forgiveness and reconciliation.

In his homilies, Suarez always cites the lack of prayer, the no-longer-having-time-for-the-Lord attitude, as the essential ingredients behind His disappointment (manifested in rampant terminal ailments such as cancer) and His joy when people return to His fold (manifested in rampant healing).

He uses Suarez’s touch as an instrument for these messages, which are as old as those in Genesis and Exodus.

Will Montemaria rise as a global event in fulfillment of the Lord’s healing message?

MEDUGORJE PROPHECY ABOUT THE PHILIPPINES

FERNANDO SUAREZ
Međugorje ([ˈmɛdʑu.ɡɔːrjɛ], roughly meh’-joo-gor-yeh) is a town located in Hercegovina, Bosnia and Hercegovina, around 25 km southwest of Mostar and close to the border of Croatia. Today the town is best known due to apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary which appeared to six Herzegovinian Croats since 24 June 1981[1], and is now visited by pilgrims from around the entire world as a shrine.

Medjugorge Prophecy on RP soon to be fulfilled?
By BINGO P. DEJARESCO

MANILA. A message from Our Lady of Medjugorge spoke of the Philippines to become the "global spiritual center." Will this become a reality soon?

The Philippines, the only Catholic nation in Asia, has a special devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Last January 7, two thousand people watched the groundbreaking of the Shrine of Montemaria dedicated to "Mary Mother of the Poor" at the Southern part of Batangas City Bay area facing the famous Verde Island.

The statue of the Shrine of Montemaria will be 102 meters high - higher than New York City's Statue of Liberty (96 meters high) and Rio de Janeiro has Statue of Jesus (100 meters high).

The pilgrimage site is five-hectares of land (donated by Batangas tycoon) whose development will cost P8 billion funded from donations of Filipinos - P200 million of which is already deposited in a bank.

The pilgrim site which can accommodate as much as 2,000 pilgrims will honor the massive shrine together with a Montemaria oratory of the Blessed Virgin, a cathedral-like complex to be built along the slope of the mountain. In the complex will be a Rosary Garden, Way of the cross, Eucharistic and Adoration Chapel, St. Joseph Chapel, Divine Mercy Chapel, colambarium and retreat houses for pilgrims.

The humongous statue of the Blessed Virgin can be seen from the ships passing through a major shipping lane called "Verde Strait" where as many as 200 ships pass daily. The Verde Island, known for its biodiversity of aquatic species is part of the "Sulawesi Triangle extending from Batangas to Borneo in the West and Celebes in the South.

The "Sulawesi Triangle" a 300,000 square kilometer area is the "richest in marine biodiversity in the world.

Statement of Clarification Regarding the Healing Ministry of Father Fernando Suarez

This statement was forwarded to me by a friend to whom I talked with regarding the
news of banning of Father Fernando Suarez in some Philippine parishes.

STATEMENT OF CLARIFICATION REGARDING THE HEALING MINISTRY OF FR . FERNANDO SUAREZ
Companions of the Cross – February 6, 2008

We have received several questions about the healing ministry of Fr. Fernando Suarez, CC.

Several news agencies have recently run articles about his ministry. In order to address the questions and concerns that have been raised, we would like to make the following clarifications:

1) Fr. Fernando Suarez is a member of the Companions of the Cross. He is a priest in good standing with priestly faculties from the Archdiocese of Ottawa. He has been assigned by the Companions of the Cross to work for Mary, Mother of the Poor, a charitable organization based in the Philippines which is dedicated to serving the poor. Fr.Fernando often preaches missions and celebrates Masses followed by prayers for healing.

2) The Companions of the Cross have a deep love and respect for the authority of the
Catholic Church. We endeavor to minister in complete obedience to the Church’s
teaching and in union with the local bishops in all matters. As a community, “we are
determined to think with the Church and to be loyal to the Magisterium” (Constitutions and Rules of the Companions of the Cross, C25).
3) Recently two bishops have noted that Masses with prayers for healing were conducted in their dioceses without their approval. We deeply regret this. It is always our intention to act with the blessing and explicit approval of the local Bishop. In these cases, there was an unfortunate miscommunication. It was understood that the local organizers of these events had already secured the necessary permission. Unfortunately, this was not the case. Letters of apology have been sent to both bishops.

To insure that this never happens again, a policy has been established whereby the local Bishop’s written permission must be received by Mary, Mother of the Poor prior to the confirmation and publication of any future events. This policy, already in effect in North America, takes effect immediately in the Philippines and elsewhere.
4) Fr. Fernando Suarez, and all priests of the Companions of the Cross, are careful to comply with the Church’s Instruction on Prayers for Healing issued by the
Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in 2000.

In keeping with this instruction, we make every attempt to ensure that “anything
resembling hysteria, artificiality, theatricality or sensationalism” does not take place (cf.Instruction on Prayers for Healing, Disciplinary Norms, art 5, sec 3).
5) In accord with the teaching of the Church, we believe that “[p]rayer for the restoration of health is… part of the Church’s experience in every age, including our own.”(Instruction on Prayers for Healing, Introduction). We delight that the Lord continues to bring consolation to the sick and suffering through prayers for healing. However, we leave it entirely to the competent authorities to confirm or deny claims of miraculous healing. It is the local Bishop, in consultation with medical experts, who makes such a determination.

6) Mary, Mother of the Poor often distributes religious articles, such as rosaries handmade by the poor, at their events. This is a concrete manner through which the poor contribute to the work of the apostolate. Donations are accepted for these articles with the permission of local pastors and event organizers.
While we encourage true devotion to our Lady, especially through the prayer of the
rosary, we caution the faithful against any superstitious claims made about these or any religious articles. When blessed by the Church, God can indeed use such articles as an instrument of healing in our lives, but these graces come solely from Christ through the blessing of the Church and our faith in the Lord.

We apologize for any misunderstandings and hope that this explanation provides clarity to those with concerns. It is our fervent desire to serve the good of the Church and regret anything that would bring disunity or confusion to God’s people. Above all we desire to facilitate a deeper knowledge and love of the Lord in the fullness of truth taught by His Holy Catholic Church.

Father Fernando Suarez in Naga City

I have been to Naga City Cathedral several times. Most of the masses during Penafrancia is held outside the cathedral. It is so spacious that can accommodate several thousands of people.

Thousands attended the healing session of Father Fernando Suarez in Naga City

By Juan Escandor Jr.
Philippine Daily Inquirer
First Posted 02:01:00 02/08/2008

NAGA CITY – Thousands of people in search of a miracle flocked to the Naga City Cathedral on Tuesday to listen to healing priest Fernando Suarez.

Venus L. Nava, 50, a bank employee who resigned from her job to take care of her 17-year-old son, said she sought a miracle for her wheelchair-bound child.

Nava, of Barangay Inarado, Daraga, Albay – 163 kilometers from this city – said she had been in the cathedral’s premises since Sunday to secure a good place for Suarez to notice them.

“I totally believe my son will be healed,” she said.

Nava said she had already spent all she had and that her husband had stopped working because of a stroke.

Dianne Mendoza, 22, brought her sister Eva, 20, who has been paralyzed for a year now. She positioned herself at the cathedral as early as 1 a.m.

Mendoza said she went home from Manila to bring to Suarez her younger sister, who was first diagnosed with tuberculosis of the bones.

Marites Toledo, 36, came with her bedridden 17-year-old son, who has been disabled since birth. She said she believed Suarez could do a miracle for him.

As early as 8 a.m., some 10,000 people massed at the church grounds, according to Msgr. Zosimo Zañado, parish priest. He said the place could accommodate some 20,000 and he expected the crowd to swell.

He said City Hall was helping control the crowd.

Mayor Jesse Robredo said some 400 personnel from the Army, police and the Naga City Public Safety Office were mobilized.

Suarez arrived from Iriga City at 11:15 a.m. to a cheering crowd.

Saying the power to heal belongs to Jesus Christ and that he is only a medium, Suarez told them to pray hard for their wellness.

Suarez asked the people to touch the ailing body part and prayed over them.

The avid watchers of Father Fernando Suarez

CBCP said that they are closely watching Father Fernando Suarez activities. According to the article of Larry Faraon, instead of being avid watchers, these Church authorities should help in the effective crowd control since many people attending to these healing sessions are desperate or may be too poor to spend on expensive medicines just to extend their physical lives.

Before this article will be buried in the archives of the newspaper, I am preserving it here in this blog.

Larry Faraon

There is no doubt Fr. Fernando Suarez is gifted with whatever charismatic gifts there are in order to bring people to an experience mostly of instant physical healing. From an evangelical point of view, such healings should lead to a deeper experience of faith among the people. We thank the Lord for sending and using mightily such ministers of healing to manifest God’s mercy and love among the sick members of the flock. But the healing crusades of Father Suarez seem to have their share of unexpected turn of events, for instance, the almost unmanageable mass of people coming in droves and crowding the healing venues, long queues of people exasperated for waiting to be prayed over. There are obvious frustrations, disappointments, the irrational rush for tickets and sadly even sudden deaths happening right there in the venues of the healing sessions. But all of these sad turn of events are inevitable results of a lavish media hype surrounding the activities of the healing priest. The publicity afforded such healing services simply exploded.

Healings and miracles are happening everywhere without much media coverage and hype such as those in the thousands of prayers answered, mostly healing petitions in the popular shrines of Jesus Nazareno in Quiapo, Our Lady of the Rosary in Manaoag, Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Baclaran, or Our Lady of Good Voyage in Antipolo among others. Also, in our midst are other noted personalities with healing gifts such as Sister Gloria, RVM, Fr. Joey Faller, Fr. Teofilo Rustia, Fr. Andres Cacao and lay Catholic healers, Bro. Jiggers Alejandrino, Bro. Mike Velarde, Bro. Bo Sanchez, etc. Even the local arbularyo and a host of psychic healers littering the different parts of the country register healing successes among their believers. But there isn’t much hype or sensationalism in these healings. Mostly, especially in devotional centers, the healings happen in the privacy or confines of one’s very deep personal faith without media fanfare.

Now here come some bishops with loads of questions thrown on Father Suarez’s floor regarding his background, past activities especially in Canada where he is based, his merchandise and marketing of rosaries and DVDs to which the healing priest attributes healing powers, the construction of a gigantic Monte Maria Shrine where an image of the Virgin Mary shall dwarf the Statue of Liberty in New York, the “healing stones” and, of course, his violations of official protocol with the local bishop. Today, the healing ministry of Father Suarez is under the tight watch of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Phlippines.

The “watchers,” however, should go beyond the issues of merchandise, the church collections, the shrine, but should dig deeper into the meaning of all these phenomenal events. All of these peripheral issues could be answered by Father Suarez and his group satisfactorily in due time. In the meantime, what an opportunity for the church to reflect deeply on its universal healing mission, especially when in the past and presently, the institutional church represented by some bishops and priests have created more wounds and hurts among the “unwashed, uneducated, smelly” — the marginalized, rather than heal the wounds inflicted by religious bias, bigotry, negligence and Phariseeism.

For instance, the poor masses were wounded when some of their religious leaders joined hands with the plotters to oust a president they chose to lead them; also their eventual silence and indecisiveness on some glaring issues of corruption in government. Wounds are still gaping wide among the Catholic flock, while insult continues to be added on to the injury. These urgently need healing, too.

In my experience as a priest and pastor, physical healing is the easiest and most common form of healing. The more difficult is spiritual, emotional and psychological healing which revolves around acts of humility, repentance and forgiveness. Physical healing simply extends the borrowed biological life God has given us. Eventually, we shall all die; but not our hearts, minds and spirits; hence, the necessity of spiritual healing. There is so much the church leaders should be doing rather than just becoming avid watchers of the activities of healing priests.

In the meantime, the concern of Father Suarez and his organizers and perhaps of the bishops themselves should focus on effective crowd control. The people who come to the healing sessions are no ordinary people with ordinary needs. They are mostly desperate people wanting to liberate themselves from all sorts of illnesses without the benefit of costly medicines and hospital care, which they cannot afford to pay in the first place.

A repeat of the nightmarish Wowowee tragedy does not deserve an encore among these poor healing hopefuls, although both crowds were creations of media hype and the overrated expectations generated by such. The similarities and tendencies to fanaticism are giving us the chill in the spine. If only the group could get a little education from the crowd control experts of El Shaddai’s over one-hundred thousand regular attendees, then some unpalatable or untoward incidents could be averted. The worst thing that could ever happen in these grace-filled events is when there would be more wounds inflicted than wounds healed.

After all, the God who heals, Yahweh me rapha, is a God of order.

If you wish to invite Fr. Fernando Suarez & Fr. Jeff Shannon to your parish,

With the increasing popularity of Father Fernando Suarez, there are people who became jealous and spread rumors. One rumor was that he's charging $ 2,000 to heal a patient. Another columnist insinuated that it is all a hoax and might be a pyramiding scam. Even the archbishop frowned on the selling of rosary beads made from mother-of-pearl as a profiteering activity of the healing priest. The same archbishop warned the public of the status of Father Fernando Suarez as a priest.

The letter states that Father Fernando Suarez is a priest in good standing. The sale of the rosaries and cd's are to solicit donations to help them in the livelihood projects sponsored by the Mother of the Poor Organization.

An irate bishop lodged a formal complaint when Father Fernando Suarez celebrated healing masses in his jurisdiction. If you will take a look at the letter/invitation form, one of the conditions set by Father Fernando's healing ministry is the permission from the parish or the bishop. What the bishop would like to do is for him to issue an explicit permission. Where to the media?

This letter which is pdf file in his Healing Ministry website is a must for the invitation and clarifies most of these ugly rumors/news. Here is the html copy of the letter and an invitation form.

Dear Friend in Christ,
Re: Healing Ministry of Fr. Fernando Suarez, CC (Companions of the Cross)

Thank you for your inquiry regarding inviting Fr. Fernando Suarez to celebrate a Healing Mass/Mission at your parish. This aims to provide clarification regarding Fr. Fernando’s possible visit to your parish and to answer frequently asked questions about Fr. Fernando’s Healing Ministry.

Fr. Fernando Suarez is a priest in good standing with the Companions of the Cross Community, in Ottawa, Canada. Shortly after Fr. Fernando’s ordination in 2002, it was apparent that he had been blessed with the gift of healing. In 2005, he was assigned to work full time in a healing ministry. As a
fellow priest in the Companions of the Cross, I was assigned by our community to travel with Fr.Fernando and help him in this ministry.

News of Fr. Fernando’s healing gift spread quickly and in the last couple of years, we have been all over the world celebrating healing Masses and rejoicing in the healing power of the Eucharist. Due to the overwhelming response to this ministry, it became necessary for us to set a few guidelines. In order for us to be able to consider an invitation to a parish, we must receive the expressed permission
and approval from the pastor of the parish. If an organization is the inviting party, the bishop or pastor who has jurisdiction in that area must grant permission for Fr. Fernando to celebrate a healing Mass/Mission.

While still in the seminary, Fr. Fernando founded a ministry called Mary Mother of the Poor and it was his vision that time that this ministry would serve the needs of the poor. Today, Mary Mother of the Poor is a non-profit, charitable foundation, an apostolate helping the poor in countries like the Philippines, Canada, United States, and Uganda with feeding and housing programs as well as funding for schools and scholarship programs. For these reasons, if Fr. Fernando is able to accept your
invitation, it is expected that all monies collected during the Mass be donated to the Mary Mother of the Poor Foundation (MMP) and in turn MMP will give a stipend to the parish/pastor for the use of the
church.

For 3-6 Days Parish Missions (Only), we require the inviting parish or parishes to cover the associated travel expenses and be responsible for our accommodations while we are there.

We also usually bring a selection of fresh water pearl rosary bracelets made in the Philippines which is part of a livelihood program. In addition, we also have several CD’s of talks and reflections by Fr.Fernando at a number of venues over the last couple of years. We kindly request that a table be set up outside the church proper so that anyone wanting to make a donation to Mary Mother of the Poor in
exchange for a CD or rosary bracelet may do so.

We hope we were able to help you understand the process involved and answer a few questions you
may have about Fr. Fernando’s healing ministry. We believe that this ministry is truly blessed by God and we look forward to the possibility of visiting your parish.
If you wish to invite Fr. Fernando and myself to your parish, we would appreciate receiving an invitation sent to us. Please complete the form below and fax a signed copy of this letter to ensure us that you are in agreement with the terms that have been laid out.

Once received, we will be able to consider your invitation and inform you of our availability dates.
This letter will also be signed by Fr. Fernando, me, or a representative of MMP, and a signed copy will be sent to you.

Please do not hesitate to contact us for any further information. In Canada, we can be reached at 613-225-6212 or by email at email@marymotherofthepoor.org. In the United States, you can contact Manny Abalos at 815-262-1691 or by email at manny_abalos@hotmail.com.

Thank you for your consideration.
In Jesus and Mary,

Fr. Jeff Shannon, CC
I have read the above information and accept the terms that have been outlined and would like to invite Fr. Fernando Suarez and Fr. Jeff Shannon to my parish _________________________________

Berating Father Fernando Suarez is uncalled for said the writer

This is letter published in the Inquirer about the news regarding the Malolos Bishop
filing a complaint against Father Fernando Suarez. I wholeheartedly agree to the writer.

As Catholics, we do understand that it is only proper that religious activities involving Catholic priests, especially healing sessions, must have the approval of the bishop of the place, he being the head of the diocese. But I think it was not proper for Malolos Bishop Jose Oliveros to blame Fr. Fernando Suarez before the media, for all the world to see, that the latter’s healing session did not have the bishop’s imprimatur.

In the first place, I do believe that Father Suarez would not go to a certain parish to conduct a healing session if he were not invited by the parish priest of that place. I think Father Suarez and his group, when they go to a place for the purpose, assume that all requirements have been met by the parish priest concerned.

Before blaming Father Suarez, the beloved Bishop Oliveros should have done some investigation first and asked the concerned parish priest of his diocese. Then he would have had reason to reprimand those who have committed mistakes, if indeed there were any. And for the good of the Roman Catholic Church, he should not have told the media about it.

Telling the media that he is planning to write a formal complaint to the religious superiors of Father Suarez was, I think, unnecessary. Maybe he could have just invited Father Suarez to a dialogue which, I believe, the good father would have welcomed.

Father Suarez is a very simple, very humble person, and you can see in his being the image of Christ, healing the sick, raising the dead to life, in many parts of the world. Instead of making some negative statements against the poor priest, we should be proud that we in the Roman Catholic Church have somebody in the real image of Christ.

And also as Filipinos: We should be proud and happy that Father Suarez is a genuine Filipino, by his looks and by the way he speaks and moves. Even though he finished his priesthood in Canada and stayed there for a long time, you cannot see any foreign qualities in him. And the best thing that he did was to decide to stay here in the Philippines for good by putting up a healing center that will benefit all Filipinos.

All of us Catholics, and all Filipinos for that matter, should inspire Father Suarez to go on sharing the gift of healing he received from God through the power of the Holy Spirit. “Mabuhay ka,” Father Suarez! We love you
.

A VERY IMPORTANT PERSON HEALED BY FATHER FERNANDO SUAREZ

This is an article from Manila Bulletin dated 4/18/07

Erik Espina

JUST last week, a family friend of my parents (and I consider this ‘Tita’ to be a 2nd mother hailing from Cebu) came to Manila to attend a prayer healing for her ailing knees. When ‘Tita Ester’ arrived for dinner along with her brood, noticeably she could hardly walk nor straighten her back. She required the assistance of two of our helpers to exit from the vehicle, walk, and sit for dinner, etc. She was suffering from much pain. Due to her condition, there were times she would question her faith. And she was a religious person. Medical examination of her state recommended an operation. But given her heart and age, compounded an "iffy" situation.

At 5:30 a.m. in the morning the next day, said ‘Tita’ with family in tow, lined-up at the Greenhills Church to be prayed over by Fr. Fernando Suarez. Second in line, her number was called-up, and after Fr. Suarez prayed over her, was commanded to rise and walk. And standup and saunter she did alone in front of the altar amidst the rush of tears by a grateful family. She relates a strong feeling coming over her knees during the event.

Currently, she no longer needs the aid of anyone to be mobile. The comment of other friends who were told of the miracle was that, if they did not know my Tita’s previous circumstance, they would have probably just dismissed the story as another good tale to swap among social circles.

Now it can be told. Said Fr. Suarez was also in St. Luke’s Hospital to pray over its most "important" patient. The prognosis according to insiders was actually, put in diplomatic terms, not encouraging in terms of brain function. However, after Father Suarez prayed over the eminent individual after the reported heart surgery, he clearly stated to doctors seeing the blood from the heart to the brain flow. Or words to this effect. The next day’s headlines printed the positive result of the visit.

The story of Fr. Suarez does not however end here. As an instrument of God, a statement he never fails to remind people, he extended his ministry to others present in St. Luke’s Hospital. Another prominent happening was the healing of a boy blind since birth; and the miracle of a paraplegic who is now able to walk.

From the rough narrative related, that at a young age of 16, Fr. Suarez who hails from Batangas, was aware of this gift, but preferred to keep mum about it. Such a blessing to cure others must be there for a reason, and clearly is meant to be shared, experienced and witnessed by all who search & need physical and spiritual healing.

just who is this imminent person is anybody's guess. Who was confined in St. Luke at that period must be the one. not all but someone who must be a very important person.

Healing Testimonials

Healing Testimonials from People Who have been healed by Father Suarez

1.

Dr. Ching Manalo of Ayala Alabang Village had a cataract operation on her left eye in July, 2004. It was not successful. Then she had a glaucoma and corneal irritation which made her vision very difficult and hazy.

In July 2005, she had a corneal transplant which made her see but uncomfortably. She could not read small letters and her left eye was always itchy.

"On July 19, 2006, she attended the healing mass of Fr. Suarez and was prayed over. I immediately experienced a vast improvement of my left eye as I could then see all the statues of saints in the church which I wasn’t able to before. I was overwhelmed with joy although I initially thought it was only my imagination and wistful thing that I was cured.

On Tuesday, July 26, I was again prayed over by Fr. Suarez and he told me not to doubt. I "rested" in the spirit after he prayed over me. Then I tried to read the small letters of a newspaper and I could see the small letters!

That afternoon I went to my eye doctor for my monthly checkup and he was very happy and satisfied with the great improvement of my eye. He then advised me to stop all my eye drops; that I will see him every three months instead of monthly; and I no longer need prescription glasses!

I use a disposable pair now and am very comfortable with it. Praise the Lord!"

2.

Gregoria Benito went to the healing mass at the Manila Cathedral in pain because of her osteoporosis. Now she feels "relieved" of her pains and walks straight!

3.
Bella Pamintuan of Tayuman, 77 years old, had an abnormal heartbeat. After Fr. Edo prayed over her, she felt greatly relieved and no longer had palpitations.

4.
Marissa Cruz has breast cancer and toxic goiter. After being prayed over, she feels "I am healed!" Her painful shoulder and migraine has also been healed, she said.

5.
Daffodil Pastor of Project 6, Q.C., said: "I thank and praise the Lord for healing me of my abdominal pains, stiff neck muscles, chest pains and in my right eye !"

His healing touch has not been confined to making the deaf hear, the blind see and the crippled walk, as the testimony of one Catalina Adocio, nine years old who was suffering from tonsilitis that morning in the Manila Cathedral showed.

She was in pain but after Fr. Suarez prayed over her, her pain disappeared and when she looked into the mirror to see her inflamed tonsils, she saw normal looking tonsils. Yes, God is good!
